Method	Use	Pros / Cons
Algorithmic Direct teaching of the material.	Used when we first work with a student or directly before an exam.	Pro: Fast and effective. Reduces stress as material is presented in a straight forward easy to understand manner. Con: Does not lead to independent thinking / problem solving ability.
Socratic Ask the student questions designed to probe the material.	Used after we have address immediate and pressing needs	Builds student's conceptual understanding of material. Student begins to develop independent critical thinking skills.
Meta-Socratic Lead the student to forming their own questions designed to probe the material.	Used once the student has developed a strong foundation and is maintaining a high level of performance.	Knowing what questions to ask is the basis for independent investigation. All Wells Academics tutoring works towards this goal.
